The Amazing Race kicked off tonight. The contestants are:

Kynt Cothron and Vyxsin Fiala (a dating Goth couple): Kynt scares me and both annoy me with the way they spell their names. And who knew there were Goths in Kentucky?

Nathan Hagstrom and Jennifer Parker (dating): They have been dating for two years, but Nathan cheated on her. I cannot wait until blood pressures raise and THAT is brought up.

Ronald and Christina Hsu (father and daughter): These two are cute! He missed quite a bit of her childhood because he was working, so now they want to get to know each other.

Shana Hall and Jennifer McCall (friends): Just call these two the Dustin and Kandice of this season. These blondes promise to flirt their way to #1. Yeah, that didn’t work for the other blondes either.

Azaria and Hendekea Azene (brother and sister): Azaria said they had an advantage over the other teams because they were “more intelligent.” And obviously, Azaria is terribly modest.

Lorena Segura and Jason Widener (dating): These two have been dating for three years.   Lorena wants a commitment – I don’t think she will get it from Jason! Especially after he said he will always have one foot out the door.

Donald Jerousek and Nicolas Fulks (grandson and grandfather): Talk about cute! Nicolas is a 23-year-old pilot. Apparently, Donald is a cussing grandpa who talks about the ladies, at least according to Nicolas.

Ari Bonas and Staella Gianakakos (Best Friends): Ari said he was ready to backstab and “Karma’s a bitch, but I’m a bigger bitch.”

Marianna and Julia Ruiz (Sisters): These two promised to use their womanly ways to get ahead, and then fight like men to stay there.

Rachel Rosales and TK Erwin (Dating): These two are “newly” dating, whatever that means. All I know it is looks like TK needs to wash his hair…or cut it off.

Kate Lewis and Pat Henderson (Married Lesbian Ministers): Ah, the token gay couple. But, Kate and Pat are cute. Pat cracked me up when she said they were not “wimps for Jesus” and wouldn’t hold open doors for the other teams.

The teams left from the Playboy mansion headed for LAX to take a flight to Shannon, Ireland. The only problem is half of them didn’t know which way to go to get to the airport. Nicolas, who was in the lead SUV, led several teams astray when he turned right instead of left, away from the 405. Lorena and Jason, from LA, knew to turn left and some teams followed them.

Lorena and Jason arrived at the airport first to get on the British Airlines flight. It only had so many seats and those left behind would have to take the Aer Lingus flight that landed 45 minutes later. Shana and Jennifer arrived second, Kate and Pat arrived third and Nathan and Jennifer arrived fourth. All got on the earlier flight. By the time Azaria and Hendekea got there, the flight was full. So, all the other teams ended up on the second flight.

The only problem was the British Airlines flight was delayed due to traffic, so the Aer Lingus flight actually arrived seven minutes before it did. Resourceful Hendekea called while on board and reserved two taxis, one for them and one for their new alliance partners, Ronald and Christina. However, once they all landed, Ari and Staella stole Ronald and Christina’s taxi. Apparently, Ari doesn’t really believe in karma.

The teams headed for a ferry that would take them to Inismor Island. They had to find the world’s smallest church and sign up for a ferry ride the next day. The first three to sign up would leave at 8:30, the next three at 9:00, and the rest at 9:30. TK and Rachel, Kynt and Vyxsin, and Lorena and Jason were on the first ferry while Ari and Staella, Azaria and Hendekea, and Nathan and Jennifer were on the second ferry. That put everyone else a ways behind them.

After the ferry ride, they had to drive to Cleggan Farm and ride a bike to the next clue. Lorena freaked out when Jason went the wrong way. Talk about high-strung! The next stop was a roadblock – “who’s ready to peddle their partner?” One teammate had to peddle a high wire bike 200 feet in the air over water while the other teammate sat on a seat eight feet below. Oh yeah, and the wind was blowing. It is roadblocks like this that keep me from applying for Amazing Race!

After the teams crossed the water, they had to choose a donkey and put 15 pieces of peat (peat moss?) in each basket and lead the donkey to the next stop. Azaria was racing their donkey, but Nathan and Jennifer and Ari and Staella got stubborn donkeys that weren’t so eager to move. Ari threatened to eat the donkey, then he threatened to kick its butt, but nothing was working. Nathan yelled, which I think just upset the donkey. Actually, Nathan and Jennifer yelled at each other through most of the show. As both teams stood there, other teams passed them. Even people who were on the 9:30 ferry started passing them!

After dropping off the donkey, each team had to drive to Connemara Heritage Centre. That was the pit shop for this leg of the race. Azaria and Hendekea arrived first, winning a trip for two to Alberta, Canada for their efforts. Amazingly enough (well, this is the Amazing Race!), the Goth couple, Kynt and Vyxsin came in second. TK and Rachel came in third and Lorena and Jason arrived fourth. Team after team kept passing Ari and Staella. Christina even commented that she couldn’t believe the way ari was talking to the donkey, that “donkeys have souls too.” Nicolas and Donald finished in fifth place. Shana and Jennifer, once in dead last, passed both Ari and Staella and Nathan and Jennifer to finish in sixth place. Ronald and Christina finished in seventh. Pat and Kate finished in eighth place right behind them. Finally, with Jennifer crying, their donkey finally started moving. Staella started pushing the donkey while Ari was dragging him and he began to slowly move.

It was a foot race for ninth place between Marianna and Julia and Nathan and Jennifer, with Marianna and Julia barely beating them out. With Nathan and Jennifer finishing in tenth place, that put Ari and Staella in last and they were eliminated.

It might just be me, but I’d think Ari would think twice before stealing anyone’s taxi again or threatens any donkeys.
