The guest appearance on How I Met Your Mother this week by Britney Spears, who played the receptionist at the office of Ted's dermatologist, boosted the show into its highest adult 18-49 and adult 25-54 ratings in its three-season history according to preliminary Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Monday.
According to the National Enquirer via MSNBC, Britney refused to remove her sunglasses during rehearsal and only did so once filming started. Spears’ portrayal of a ditzy receptionist couldn’t have been a far stretch for her but it seems acting isn’t one of her natural gifts, a fact that was confirmed years ago when she co-starred in the teen film, Crossroads. What was perhaps most startling about her performance was that she appeared coherent, bubbly and of her younger and more innocent self. But while I enjoyed seeing Britney make another comeback after her botched attempt during the MTV Video Music Awards, I’d like to think her performance was upstaged by Ted’s victory at coming a bit closer to meeting the mother of his children, an ongoing plot thread in this series.
Fans can bid on Britney’s featured wardrobe until March 31st. Proceeds benefit the Natural Resources Defense Council, an environmental organization.

In my book Britney wasn't needed on How I Met Your Mother, it's a greta show period. I'm glad she gave the show a boost but I could have done without her. She's been over exposed and over hyped that I can't stand hearing anymore about Britney. Let's hope Ted got closer to his future wife.

George-I completely agree. It was a great episode and I'm glad that Britney didn't steal the spotlight.
